Colorful Beethoven
Many will no doubt recognize the image on the banner for our June 10th concert as being by Andy Warhol (1928-1987). The year he died, Warhol created four different screenprints of Beethoven, each 40 inches by 40 inches, using a different color scheme for each. All four have the notes of piano sonata No. 14 ("Moonlight") superimposed on them. Warhol's inspiration was what is likely the best known image of Beethoven, an 1820 oil portrait by Joseph Karl Stieler.
